500			_aThe Spirit of the Waldorf School At the end of the First World War, all the structures, values, and self-confidence that created what seemed the greatness of the nineteenth century disappeared. In its place stood only ruins, the shards of civilization. Responding to this, Emil Molt, director of the Waldorf-Astoria Cigarette Company and student of Rudolf Steiner, decided to found a school to educate human beings capable of creating a new culture. Rudolf Steiner agreed to act as consultant. Thus the Waldorf School movement, with now over 500 schools worldwide, was born.
